Theft

What makes most of Japanese moving and/traveling to Europe nervous is high rate of epidemic of theft compared with that in Japan. On any busy streets, or in shops and restaurants, we need to stay vigilant on pickpocket. It is imperative to be extremely careful in subway and bus. Some crimes are more artful and bold. One of my Japanese acquaintance had almost all of household goods stolen upon moving back to Japan by a “counterfeit “ moving company who showed up to his house with big truck, loaded all the goods, and gone. I also have experience of office robbery during Christmas holidays(office PC and video conference system, both at that time quite expensive, were stolen).

How can we prevent theft? One is to use advanced technical means such as double-lock electric keys. The other is “always be careful”…so simple is that. That is the way of life in almost all the countries outside Japan, I believe. Don’t forget Japan is extraordinary safe country.
