Living Together

Westerners may be surprised to know that many Japanese young people beyond age of 18 still live together with parents, especially in mega cities like Tokyo. Majority of youngsters living in these cities like Tokyo choose university/collage or company that they can commute from their home. It is because choices of schools and working places located nearby are so massive and rich that incentive for them to go out of the cities they grew up is practically small.

And normally these young people continue to live together with their parents until they get married, or assigned by organization they belong to move to other area of Japan(or going abroad). Lifestyle of living together with partner is still not so prevalent compared with French cohablitation and German Zusammenleben.

Will the lifestyle of Japanese youngsters change in the future?

Living room of the flat I lived in Brussels. It is little bit untidy because the photo was taken 2 days before returning back to Japan after 5 years of stay in Belgium
