Eisenach… True “German” city

What is the most famous city in Germany? Berlin? Frankfurt? Munich? All correct, but we better remind that there is one small city that most German may be regarding as spiritual capital; Eisenach in State of Thuringen. It is a small city with only 40 thousand residents, but J.S. Bach was born here in 1685. Prior to Bach’s birth, Martin Luther translated the Bible to German language in 1522 at Wartburg Castle located just in the suburb. Moreover, movement by spontaneous association of students, called “Burschenschaft”, was initiated in this small town in early 19 Century. This move eventually lead to foundation of unified German Empire (Deutches Reich) in 1871. The national flag of Germany is adopting colors used in the uniform of the Burschenschaft students, namely black for their coat, red for their collar ornaments, and gold for their button. I think Bach, Luther and Burschenschaft consist great part of identity and pride of Germany, and thus the city is so important for the country.

Franky I am a bit hesitant to recommend this city to all the people who travels to Germany. I think those who knows and respects history of Germany will enjoy the true value of visiting Eisenach.
